Blocking

is essential to lace knitting.

The first shawl I did from "our" book was "Stripes & Torchon Lace" from page 158.

Before blocking the shawl looked like a picture of misery in some way.

Didn't it?

While blocking you can imagine the beautiful design

and I really like how it is turning out so far.
Hope soon to have a picture of the finished piece which my best friend got for her birthday.

I wouldn't say misery - more like a caterpillar about to turn into a butterfly! The shawl is beautiful, and I love the photo with the alphabet foam tiles peeking through.

I'm always amazed by the effect of blocking on lace.

Gorgeous shawl...thanks for sharing!

I agree with you about blocking. I love the finished product it creates. The difference between blocking and not blocking is like comparing a wrinkled cotton shirt with one that his crisply ironed and starched. I do not undersand why someone would not block lace!

Very pretty. And I've been wanting to pick up some puzzle blocks for my son, not to mention that I had no idea how I was going to block my scarf!
