Humble Beginnings

This is the beginning of the handsome triangle shawl pictured on page 32. I plan on using the ruffle edging in the back of the book. I am using kidsilk haze, color 604, which is actually a discontinued color. (Using up stash!) I started on bamboo straights, but I am switching to circulars. I sandpapered the ends of my needles to make them sharper and then used a double-coat of clear nail polish over the ends to smooth them. So far they have been working well for me!

Nice trick on the needles. Not sure if I'm brave enough to take sandpaper to my needles. It would probably end up like using bad a pencil sharpner and the needle would just get shorter and shorter and shorter. :)

I've had to use the sandpaper on my needles.....actually, I used a nail file and it worked really well. I didn't have to use anything to refinish as I'm knitting cashmere and the oils from the yarn work nicely to help put that finish back on the wood. I didn't do a serious filing either, just enough to get that point I wanted.

Good idea on the sandpaper filing - I have a spare pair of wooden straights that I can practice on. Thanks for sharing the idea. Beautiful color for your scarf, too, by the way.

Nice colour. I may have to have a go with sand paper on my needles. Love my bamboos but the points are too rounded. Thanks for the tip. I may get my nail file out later and have a go.

I really want to make this shawl. Please let us know how much kidsilk you end up using!
