I just took some photos of my Alpine scarf to post on my blog and here to show the progress as I'm nearing the end. And as I laid it out on the floor I noticed this:
What you may ask? Or you may scream out 'oh no'!!! like I did straight away. As it lay on the floor in front of me I noticed the tide mark. I've used two skeins so far and although they're handdyed they were purchased together and I thought they were the same colour and in the skein they didn't look any different. But they do now. I'm about to start the third skein and if it's same as the first colour I can pretend it's supposed to be that way but if it's like the 2nd skein what do I do? I've spent two weeks on this scarf and love it. Don't want to frog it either. I'm absolutely devastated!!!!

i would finish it and then overdye/recolour the whole scarf carefully with a nice colour...

Overdye is good. Also, you could just wear it - looks like the break would come where it would wrap around your neck, anyway. The general non-knitting public (muggles) are unbelievably clueless when it comes to such things! VBG!
The scarf is beautiful. If the same thing happens with the next ball then it'll look fine. Like a design feature. If not I agree with everyone. Overdye it.
OH WHAT A SHAME!! I think the overdye suggestions are right on the mark. Knit on. It looks gorgeous.
I am with Barbara, it would probably be hidden within folds... How frustrating! It's gorgeous, though.
Hand dyed yarns often have that problem. Overdyeing will cover it up but when you're wearing it the color change will hardly be noticable.
I would definitely agree that overdying would work and look best. You could even do an interesting color combo for fun like how Sundara overdyes with interesting combinations...but that is just me I would do something fun it may be better than you expected and truly unique!
Thank you everyone for your support. I think the last skein is similar to the first so if I finish off with an equal section it may be okay. My daughters said nobody but me would notice it and yes, it's probably falls within the folds. I've also thought about overdying it. I'm going to finish it and then see how I feel. I'm not frogging it and starting again that's for sure. Couldn't bear to do that. When I posted before I'd just laid it out to photograph it and it just hit me as being such an obvious colour change. I've calmed down now. LOL. You're all lovely with your comments though. Thank you.
Oh my gosh, I'd be devastated too. Everyone's right that it probably won't be that noticeable and if it is you can overdye it, but I can imagine the shock you went through when you first noticed it. The knitting work is just beautiful.
I'm sure it will be fine as is when you get the rest done. At least you didn't do what I did (with a much, much smaller scarf) - 1/3 of the way through I reversed the right and wrong sides. But I only had a few days' work invested, so it wasn't a tragedy. And color change or not, it looks beautiful.
I love the colour(s), and it would be a shame to lose such a pretty colour, but if the third ball doesn't balance it all it, I'd have to go with what the others have said, and recommend overdyeing it. That is, assuming if change in colour will bother you. If anyone else notices, you can just chalk it up to odd lighting, if you like. :p
Thank you everyone. I started the 3rd skein last night and it looks the same as the first one so far so maybe I'll jsut pass it off as a design feature. On anotehr blog someone suggested washing it as some of the excess dye may come out of the darker shades and balance it out. Can't wait to finish it now. Been trying to decide which project to do next from VTL.

Yeah, I also think people would not notice and it may fade a little over time but you could experiment with a light wash of some dye on leftover yarn. I love the color!
